چکیده

A new x-ray transient, designated XTE J1739–302, was discovered with the Proportional Counter Array (PCA) on the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) in data from 12 August 1997. Although it was the brightest source in the Galactic Center region while active (about 3.0× 10ergs cms from 2 to 25 keV), it was only observed on that one day; it was not detectable nine days earlier or two days later. There is no known counterpart at other wavelengths, and its proximity to the Galactic Center will make such an identification difficult due to source confusion and extinction. The x-ray spectrum and intensity suggest a giant outburst of a Be/neutron star binary, although no pulsations were observed and the outburst was shorter than is usual from these systems. XTE J1739–302 as a Supergiant Fast X-ray Transient

XTE J1739–302 is a transient X-ray source with unusually short outbursts, lasting on the order of hours. Here we give a summary of X-ray observations we have made of this object in outburst with the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and at a low level of activity with the Chandra X-ray Observatory, as well as observations made by other groups. Visible and infrared spectroscopy of the mass dono...

Monitoring Supergiant Fast X-ray Transients with Swift. Iii. Outbursts of the Prototypical Sfxts Igr J17544−2619 and Xte

IGR J17544−2619 and XTE J1739−302 are considered the prototypical sources of the new class of High Mass X–ray Binaries, the Supergiant Fast X–ray Transients (SFXTs). These sources were observed during bright outbursts on 2008 March 31 and 2008 April 8, respectively, thanks to an on-going monitoring campaign we are performing with Swift, started in October 2007. Simultaneous observations with XR...

Monitoring Supergiant Fast X–ray Transients with Swift. Results from the first year

The advent of Swift has allowed, for the first time, the possibility to give Supergiant Fast X–ray Transients (SFXTs), the new class of High Mass X–ray Binaries discovered by INTEGRAL, non serendipitous attention throughout most phases of their life. In this paper we present our results based on the first year of intense Swift monitoring of four SFXTs, IGR J16479−4514, XTE J1739−302, IGR J17544...

J 17544 − 2619 : A new supergiant fast X - ray transient revealed by optical / infrared observations ⋆

One of the most recent discoveries of the INTEGRAL observatory is the existence of a previously unknown population of X-ray sources in the inner arms of the Galaxy. IGR J17544−2619, IGR J16465−4507 and XTE J1739−302 are among these sources. Although the nature of these systems is still unexplained, the investigations of the optical/NIR counterparts of the two last sources, combined with high en...

Discovery of 1122 Hz X-ray Burst Oscillations from the Neutron-star X-ray Transient Xte J1739-285

We report the discovery of oscillations at 1122 ± 0.3 Hz in an X-ray burst from the X-ray transient XTE J1739-285. The signal has a peak Leahy power of 42.8 and, after consideration of the number of trials, has a chance probability of occurrence of 4×10 −5 , equivalent to a 4.2σ detection. The oscillation frequency suggests that XTE J1739-285 contains the fastest rotating neutron star yet found...
